CASTLES

If you want to see a green site with flourishing history, then you can drop by the Castle of Acova. The ruins of this Frankish castle will captivate you, while giving you a good sense of the medieval times. This beautiful monument is located on a hill close to Tropaia, next to the village of Vyziki, and everything about it is simply stunning.

History:
It was founded by Guillaume de Villardhuin, during the Medieval Period, and it’s a characteristic example of Frankish architechture. It was then owned by Ioannis Katakouzinos and Andronikos Palaeologos, before being conquered by Mehmed II the Conqueror, the Venetians, and, then again, by the Turks.

The castle is remote and neglected, therefore the entrance is easy. On the other hand, it’s quite difficult to approach the castle and walk around.
